Fun for everyone, with potentially smaller crowds.

I as much of a tourist as the next person. Tourist hot spots become hot spots for a reason. They have something that everyone wants to come to see or do.

However, just because something is a little less known, doesn’t mean it is just as great of an experience. Sometimes it is even better!

I have created this list of 20 more unique activities to do while visiting Oahu, because it is nice to have new experiences off the beaten path.

Let’s get started.

Hawaii Theater Center

I bet you didn’t think of catching a night at the symphony while in Hawaii. Much like finding a zoo in a new city, it is something you may be able to get at home, but it is cool to try it somewhere else.

There is a wide variety of cultural music and shows at the theater. Check out their events page to get an idea of what they may offer during your next visit.

Lyon Arboretum

Part of the University of Hawaii, the Lyon Arboretum is a wonderful place to spend your day. They have over seven miles of hiking trails. There are so many amazing plants to see!

Plus, they have publicly available courses such as “forest bathing”, photography, gardening, and more. There are courses geared towards children as well.

Here is their website for more information.

Nā Mea Kūpono Learning Center

Visit a sustainable farm. Taro is a traditional crop grown here in Hawaii. Queen Emma had acres of Taro Farms near her summer palace.

Today, you can see a real Taro farm and understand traditional farming practices. There are even options for participating. If you haven’t eaten a Taro Leaf Wrapped Lau Lau here in Oahu, you are missing out.

Haunted Honolulu Ghost Tours

I swear, up and down, I do not believe in ghosts…but being in Oahu has made me seriously evaluate my assumptions. I am not convinced, but pretty intrigued.

Apparently you can take some haunted tours here on the island. When we were at Manoa falls, we picked up this book on Night Marchers.

We hope this sparks an interesting journey for you! Let us know in the comments if you plan to try any of these or if you already have!
