There are a lot of “must buy” items out there for traveling, but really? Do you really need another packing cube or neck pillow? Probably not.

This list of travel items is made from many years of trial and error traveling as a family. Affiliate links are at no cost to you. We receive a small amount if you choose to make a purchase. It is appreciated, but not expected or required.

Item One

The Passport Holder

I bought one of these for each of us a few years ago and they continue to be incredible. I keep my passport, spare cash, and other small items on me at all times. It tucks away under your shirt, which admittedly works better on men, but it is what it is.

Whether you get this one or any other brand out there, I highly recommend having a convenient holder that is a little more secure than wallet or bag.

Item Two

First Aid Kit

You can get a pre-made one like this or build your own! I bought a slightly larger bag with a shoulder strap. It goes in my backpack when we are on the move, or I can carry it like a purse.

You never know when they will come in handy. I keep a lot of things geared towards traveling. Motion sickness pills, ginger chews, upset stomach medication, Tylenol, allergy meds, sleep aids, you name it, I have it.

I also carry hand sanitizer, floss, and travel tooth brush/paste for use at airport layovers. It feels good to be prepared!

Item Three

Travel Blanket

Any small throw blanket will do. I bought soft plaid throw for camping several years ago and I roll it up and bring it along for all of my trips.

I know you can get blankets on a plane, but they are not as soft and warm. Also, you never know when a blanket will come in handy. Layover at the airport and need a nap? Kids need a nap? Picnic on the beach? Chilly evening under the stars? A travel blanket is a must!

Item Four

Hanging Toiletry Bag

I couldn’t find the ones I have when I went to make this list, but the sentiment is the same. Yet another travel item that we bought years back and continue to use trip after trip.

The joy of these puppies is that you can fill them with all of your toiletry items and simply unzip and hang up when you get to your destination. This works in hotels, cruise cabins, campsites, and anywhere else you may tread.

This way you don’t have to worry about losing items or having to pull each one out every time you want to use them, because they are already right there waiting for you!

Item Five

Universal Adapter/Charger

Don’t forget you will need to charge your phone, watches, kindles, and entertainment screens while on that trip.

Even if you do not have to worry about different power requirements, it never hurts to have a few extra ports hanging around. Adapters like this have saved us on more than one occasion.

I hope you enjoyed the list! Let me know in the comments what kinds of items YOU can’t seem to leave home without!

Happy Travels!
